Sunday Minute – March 11, 2018
Good evening, families! This is Mrs. Stevens, Principal of Topeka, with this week’s Sunday Minute!
Spring Box Tops Winners-
Congratulations to Mr. Kim’s 2nd grade class and Mrs. Whelan’s 3rd grade class for collecting the top number of box tops! The next Box Tops contest will be in the Fall 2018- clip, cut, and save those box tops to turn in for the next contest. The overall Spring contest raised over $200 for the school. Every clip helps, ten cents at a time!
Soundtrack to My Success- African American Spring Semester Parent Empowerment Summit Saturday March 10th 8:30am-2:00PM at Taft Charter High School
Thank you to the parents that came out to the African American Spring Semester Parent Empowerment Summit. I appreciate your support more than you know.
PBIS- Be Safe—
For the safety of our student, ALL students waiting for parents, who do not arrive at dismissal, MUST wait inside the gates. Staff will not permit students to wait outside on the streets. I am aware that this may be a little inconvenient, but we are trying to ensure your child’s safety. Also, parents please do not use the teachers’ parking lot for drop off or pick up. Just last week someone was almost hurt because of parent double parking in the Teachers’ lot. Please follow the signs and rules. Let us adults model what we expect from our children. Thank you.
Governance Council Meetings Wednesday 3/21 @ 2:45PM
Please mark your calendar to attend a special Governance Council meeting on Wednesday, March 21st, where we will be approving the budget for 2018-2019. We will be meeting at 2:45PM in room 28.
AEMP Parent Workshop, Monday 3/12 @ 8:15AM
We invite all parents to join us tomorrow, at 8:15am in the library, for the first of a series of parent workshops. In this workshop, Mrs. Julie Pinto, one of our Kinder parents, will be teaching us about the Adinkra cloth along with the meaning of the symbols used to create them. Come learn and discover how to make your own ‘vision cloth’ for your child or family.
PTA Sponsored Dine out Thursday 3/15
Thursday, March 15th, don’t worry about making dinner. Join us at The Habit on Reseda for our PTA sponsored Dine Out.
PTA Association Meeting Tuesday 3/20 Mark your Calendars
The meeting will take place at 6:30PM on Tuesday March 20th. Please mark your calendars and plan to attend. At the March meeting, we will be voting for executive board officers. If you missed the opportunity to nominate someone or yourself, it’s not too late. People can be nominated on the day of the elections and they do not have to be current PTA members to accept the nomination. Once they’ve accepted the nomination, current PTA members will vote. What a wonderful way to get more of our Topeka parents to be an instrumental part of our PTA.
5th Grade See’s Spring Candy Sale
If you would like to place a See’s Candy order, please be sure to fill out an order form and turn it in with payment by Thursday, March 15th. Orders will be delivered Thursday, March 22nd. Please note the correct delivery date is March 22nd not 23rd. Proceeds support Topeka’s traditional special 5th grade activities. The 5th grade team truly appreciates your support.
Acts of Kindness
Students don’t forget to bring your acts of kindness notes to the office and place them in the Kindness jar, so that we can recognize our local heroes, for their kind deeds.
