Sunday Minute – October 27, 2019

Good evening. This is Mrs. Stevens, with this week’s Sunday Minute.

School is Open

As you may have already heard from our Local Superintendent, Mr. Nacorda, school will be open tomorrow and operating on our regular day and after school schedule.

School Experience Survey Begins 10/28

Parents and students, your feedback about your experience at Topeka is important to us.  The School Experience Survey begins Monday, October 28th.  The oldest student in the house will bring home instructions on how to complete the survey.  Please remember to fill out the paper survey or for your convenience, you can take the survey online at  achieve.lausd.net/schoolexperiencesurvey and input the 10-digit parent code found on the top right corner of the parent letter.

PTA 5th Grade Boo Grams sold this week pending District Approval

5th Grade sponsored Boo Grams will be sold through Halloween.  Keep an eye out for booths and send your favorite friends, teachers, and/or classrooms a Fall Boo Gram!

Pajama Day--- NO COSTUMES-- on Thursday, October 31st.

Parents, please be reminded that Thursday, October 31st is regular school day.  No Halloween costumes will be permitted.  But why not make it a Pajama Day- thank you to the suggestions of some creative 5th grade leaders!!  So, students and staff will get to enjoy a fun pajama day this Thursday. Pajamas only- NO Costumes!

Fall Festival rescheduled for Friday 11/1 @ 5:00-8:00PM!

Our annual Fall Festival is this Friday, November 1st starting at 5:00PM!  Now, that evening is when Topeka students, families, and friends are invited to wear your costumes and trick or treat while enjoying carnival type games and creatively decorated pop-up tents!  I heard the best decorated tent will win a great prize for their classroom(s).

SWPBIS- SAFETY

Safety in all areas is our focus this week.

Cell phone use in after school YS program

Parents, for your child’s cyber safety and due to an increase of students inappropriately texting after school, all children staying in the YS after school program will be asked to maintain the same phone use rules as implemented during instructional time while on campus. Students will not be permitted to watch videos, text, play games, etc. Phones will need to be safely put away.  When retrieving your children, please physically come on to campus and make contact with the afterschool coach, when picking up your children.

Pedestrian & Traffic Safety

In other safety news, EVERYONE is being asked cross at the crosswalks, drive the speed limits, stop at the stop signs, and refrain from making illegal U-turns during school traffic times.  Let’s show our students that their safety is more important than our convenience.

That’s it for this week’s news from school.  Have a tigerrific evening.
